Feeling Called to Homeschool but Not Sure Where to Start?

Maybe you’ve been feeling that nudge for a while now—a nudging from the Holy Spirit telling you that homeschooling is the right next step for your family. But then the questions flood in…

Where do I even begin?

What if I mess this up?

How do I teach my child and keep my sanity?

What if I’m not enough?

Mama, I’ve been there.

Let me encourage you today: If God is calling you to homeschool, He will equip you to do it. That doesn’t mean it will be easy—but it does mean you won’t be doing it alone.

Homeschooling Is a Calling—But It’s Also a Commitment

I want to tell you the truth, not the highlight reel. Homeschooling is hard work. It’s heart work. It requires consistency, prayer, and a lot of leaning on the Lord. But the fruit is so worth it.

Before you count yourself out, let’s walk through a few common fears that hold mamas back—and what’s actually true.

1. Myth: “I’m not qualified to teach my kids.”

Truth: You are the most qualified person to teach your children. No one knows them better. No one loves them more.

Scripture: "I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength." --- Philippians 4:13

God equips those He calls—even if you don’t have a teaching degree.

2. Myth: “I don’t have enough patience.”

Truth: None of us do! Patience is a fruit of the Spirit—it grows as we walk with Jesus, not before.

Scripture: “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience…” – Galatians 5:22

You’re not expected to be perfect. You’re called to be faithful.

3. Myth: “Homeschooling has to look like traditional school.”

Truth: Nope. You have freedom to create a life-giving rhythm that fits your family. Homeschooling isn’t about recreating the classroom—it’s about creating a home where learning flows naturally.

Scripture: “Do not conform to the pattern of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” – Romans 12:2

Ditch the school mindset. Embrace the freedom.

4. Myth: “I’ll mess up my kids if I get this wrong.”

Truth: You will make mistakes—because you’re human. But God’s grace covers it all. What your children need most is not perfection—it’s presence, love, and truth.

Scripture: “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” – 2 Corinthians 12:9

Your humility and dependence on God are more powerful than a perfect curriculum.

Let me be real—it takes more than positive thoughts and a good curriculum to homeschool:

  • It takes faith to say yes when it doesn’t all make sense.

  • It takes consistency when motivation fades.

  • It takes obedience when the road gets hard.

  • And it takes a village—yes, even online or over the phone.

And mama, I’m here to help you walk this out.
